CottagerefurbishmentFeb17_2.pngWhen John Kerry took on the refurbishment of a listed cottage in North Yorkshire it required much more than the ‘lick of paint’ the owner had originally suggested.

John told The Decorator, “The cottage had been recently purchased by the owner after having been rented out for a number of years. Unfortunately, over the years the repair and upkeep had been either neglected or ‘bodged’. This meant the cottage was in quite a state of disrepair when I took on the refurbishment job.”

All ceilings except bathroom and loft conversion were timber floorboards so they were all finished by brush rather than a roller. The woodwork and ceilings were finished in Mythic Satin and the walls in Crown Clean Extreme. Although the work took longer than expected the end result was worth it and the client was very happy with the makeover.

Outside Sills

John had recently undertaken a Repair-Care training course and he put the training to good use on the rotten window sills. The rotten timber was removed and a new base for the window was made up to keep the style of the window. The windows were them painted with Sandtex undercoat and finished in Flexi-Gloss white and the chosen colour Sandtex Smooth Masonry paint. The re-decoration took longer than expected as the builders were behind on their work, so in typical fashion John had to wait until they had finished before going back to paint the repaired area. CottagerefurbishmentFeb17_5.png
