Introduction to Apprenticeships

10 August 2023

Apprenticeships are key to boosting skills and talent in businesses of all sizes, sectors and industries.

Apprenticeships are a great way to transform your business. They provide opportunities to train new employees, or upskill existing staff, in a way that is responsive to the needs of your business.

Apprenticeships are real jobs designed by employers. This ensures the apprentice is learning and being assessed against real-world skills, knowledge and behaviours required for a particular occupation.

You decide which type of apprenticeships are right for your business. There are currently over 650 apprenticeships standards available, with more being released each year, so you can ensure your workforce has the skills required for your business to thrive.

Apprenticeships offer flexible, but structured training that can be delivered to individuals of any age, to a new employee or to current employees looking to retrain. An apprentice will spend at least 20% of their time in off-the-job training to learn the skills they need to support your business, and they must pass their End-Point Assessment before completion. This gives you the confidence that they’ve met the high standards of their industry and are occupationally competent.
