The PDA has been working on behalf of our Members with our colleagues at Site Assessment & Training Services (SATS) Ltd to develop a NEW Training Standard for Painters & Decorators which has been approved by the CITB.
The new 6-hour training course can now be offered to Managers, Supervisors & Operatives to update their knowledge on many Health & Safety related topics to a Standard which will be recognised by major Clients. This means that Painters & Decorators can access the training specifically for them rather than the more generic CITB Health & Safety course.
A very important benefit is that a CITB Training Grant of £70 per person will be available to CITB Registered Employers (subject to Eligibility to claim grants). Where eligible, grants should be paid automatically once each Training Provider submits training details to CITB.
The course content is based on a range of topics taken from the new PDA “Progressive Web App”, formerly the H&S Handbook. The Standard is made up of 4 core subjects with a minimum of 4 others chosen to suit Employer’s delegates as shown below:
Core subjects – the 4 mandatory elements
Risk Assessment & Safe Working Methods – Purpose & understanding, keeping them simple, on-site checking & briefing
Use of relevant equipment – General rules for pre-inspection, be suitably trained, identify defects, storage & use
Working with Hazardous Substances & Chemicals – Signage, understanding CoSHH data & assessments, VOC’s
Prevention of accidents & Ill Health – Risks, likely harm & prevention
Example topics taken from the current PDA Health & Safety Handbook/App – A Minimum of 4 required
Working in occupied premises
Fire prevention & control
Access equipment for Work at Height such as Steps, ladders, hop-ups, tower scaffolds, stairways
Health & hygiene
Safety signs & Notices
Confined space working
We hope that Members will be keen to take advantage of this opportunity to increase the skills & knowledge of their team. To move forward with this, we invite Members to email [email protected] with the subject title: “H and S Training” to express their interest.
We also invite Members who would like to become an “Approved Provider” in order to deliver the course to their own team and their supply chain, to log in to the Members Area of our website and click here. In addition, you will also find further details.
