The CDM Regulations will change on 6 April 2015, are you ready for them?

Our March Law Bytes will be presented by Dominic Searle, National Director of Health & Safety at Robinson Low Francis.

Dominic will be discussing the new regulations coming into force and how they will affect:

  • The CDM Co-ordinator will be replaced by a ‘Principal Designer’.
  • This will apply to all construction work with more than one contractor.
  • If you do not appoint a Principal Designer, YOU will assume the role.
  • Domestic clients are no longer excluded from the Regulations.

  • If appointed Principal Designer, YOU will effectively be carrying out the (old) CDM Co-ordinator role, in addition to your normal designer duties.
  • As such, you will need to prepare pre-construction information and health and safety files.

  • Will need a Construction Phase Plan for ALL projects where you use another contractor.
  • Will be Principal Designer on all domestic projects where one is not otherwise appointed.

Dominic has worked in the construction industry for 18 years and has extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation.

As National Director of Health and Safety, Dominic is responsible for assisting the Partner with responsibility for Health and Safety in meeting his duties as employer under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974.
