Brits_staging_1.jpgAudiences were wowed by the set of the BRIT Awards – created by Misty Buckley Production Design using DI-NOC architectural finishes by 3M.

The dramatic, origami-inspired stage backdrop stood at 15 metres tall and 59 metres wide, captivating architects, interior designers and the viewing public.

The bold structure comprised multiple folded and prism-shaped formations, with names like Iceberg, Moving Mountain, Peace Crane and Shard. Although these were cleverly constructed to look like one formation, each plane was made separately, using a different pattern from the science-based technology company’s DI-NOC finishes collection. The entire structure was projection mapped using 23 laser projectors.

This created the ultra-realistic appearance of the entire structure being made from solid dark metals, when actually it was manufactured out of a steel structure with a hard cladding of aluminium composite board and covered in 3D-conformable DI-NOC finishes by 3M.

And despite its appropriately glamorous effect, this look can be achieved in projects of any size, for a fraction of the cost that one might expect.

Brits_staging_3.jpgThe innovative DI-NOC architectural finishes by 3M bear an astonishing resemblance to natural materials. Following the recent addition of 153 new patterns and textures based on the latest trends, the range now encompasses more than 800 different designs, enabling almost infinite creativity both for interiors and exterior facades.

While the materials in the range accurately mimic the effect of everything from wood grains and stone to leather and textiles, those seen at last night’s awards event came from the Advanced Metallic, Metallic Hairline and Metallic ranges, mimicking the look of different types of metal.

Pen Webley, marketing team leader for the 3M Commercial Solutions division, said: “We were honoured to have played a part in helping to create Misty Buckley’s fantastic stage.

“The end result shows that with the DI-NOC range of architectural finishes by 3M, the only limit is your own creativity.”

Misty Buckley, production designer at Misty Buckley Production Design, added: “We’ve been delighted with the response to our stage design for the BRITs, from both the industry and the general public.

“The DI-NOC range of architectural finishes by 3M allowed us to achieve an outstanding look that really brought our whole design together. The 3M materials responded incredibly well to projection, giving a texture and depth not seen before in conventional projection materials.”

For those wishing to achieve the BRITs look for their own project, the specific materials used were the DI-NOC Architectural Finishes AM-1697, AM-1702, ME-1434, VM-306, PA-039, ME-379, ME-377 and Mirror films by 3M.
