The Painting and Decorating Association will be announcing the winners of the national Apprentice Paperhanger Competition this Saturday evening.
The event is part of the Networking Celebration to mark the PDA's 125th-anniversary milestone and which also includes a team-building fun obstacle course during the day and a fabulous Masquerade Ball in the evening.
The Paperhanger Competition is sponsored by Brewers and was held at Doncaster College in June. The competition saw 17 entry-level, and senior apprentices showcase their paper-hanging skills.
Entrant apprentices were tasked with wallpapering a three-sided booth in just seven hours, while seniors transformed a mock living room, with additional tests including internal angles, borders and inlay panels.
Judges marked the competitors on their ability to join patterns from paper to paper, and points will be deducted for the presence of paste, bubbles and blisters, as well as lifting edges.
The apprentices showed off their skills at the event and judging the best out of the group proved extremely difficult. The final four joining the PDA at Oulton Hall this weekend come from the length and breadth of the country. Well done to all to everyone who attended the competition and especially to the four finalists:
- Emma Mackenzie attending Inverness College and employed by A MacNeil Painting & Taping Contractor
- Aston Gooding of Poole College employed by CG Fry
- Alex Stonehouse attending Doncaster College employed by Hargreaves and Stocks
- Nichola Martin of West College Scotland employed by Kevin Houston Painter and Decorator
The event is kindly sponsored by longstanding partner Brewers, and the competition winners will be presented with a cash prize, trophy and certificate.
