PRESS RELEASE

Podcast chat reveals benefits of membership

The latest podcast from the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has revealed how membership of the trade body helped one firm recoup £9,000.

Belinda Halpenny of Cambridgeshire-based Graham Halpenny Decorators appeared as the special guest in the second PDA podcast, which was recorded at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre in Kettering.

While chatting with PDA Chief Executive, Neil Ogilvie, Belinda explained that she and her husband had been in business for 20 years and PDA members for 11 years with no issues at all - until they fell victim to a ‘professional non-payer’ 12 months ago.

Belinda said: “We phoned the PDA and were put through straight to Neil. It wasn’t a straight-forward case, but we had a solicitor who was brilliant and we only had to pay the first £250.

“I’m pleased to say we got £9,000 back, which we had no chance of doing without their help. And it wasn’t just the legal support – we were so worried and it really helped to know the PDA had got our back.”

Neil Ogilvie is hosting the podcasts and travelling around the UK to chat with guests and discuss a wide range of topics from across the sector.

He said: “Belinda’s story highlights several benefits of PDA membership and it’s great to hear that Belinda and Graham feel like part of the PDA extended family.

“We want to ensure the themes of our future podcasts are relevant and of interest to listeners, so we’ve produced a short survey to help gather ideas and continue making this a great podcast series.”

About the PDA

The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) was established in July 2002, following a merger of the British Decorators’ Association and the Painting & Decorating Federation. The British Decorators’ Association was originally founded in 1894.

This organisation is Britain's largest trade body, dedicated to the painting and decorating trade. Members include sole traders through to large-scale national contractors employing hundreds of operatives.

The PDA is proud of its long history and high standards, and a registered member can be relied upon to do a good professional job at a fair price.
