Crown Paints wins big at British Coatings Federation Awards

7 November 2024

Leading paint manufacturer, Crown Paints, a PDA Associate Partner, has seen its commitment to driving the industry forwards celebrated at this year’s British Coatings Federation Awards, winning in two key categories and receiving highly commended in another two.

At last night’s ceremony, Crown’s ongoing drive to execute the industry’s most ambitious sustainability agenda was celebrated with the presentation of the Race to Net Zero award for the second year in a row.

The award was given in recognition of Crown’s long-term work to reduce energy use and emissions with bold targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% in scope 1 and scope 2 before 2026 and halving them in scope 3 by 2030.

The manufacturer’s leadership in sustainable coatings is one part of its innovative ESG strategy, Project Possible, which is focused on five key areas – sustainability, charity, community, education, people & culture. The strategy also saw recognition on the night with a highly commended award in the CSR category, as a result of the impact of Crown’s community and charity programmes on people across the UK.

Crown’s commitment to delivering excellent standards of service, and its personal approach to supporting every customer and partner, was also championed with the business winning the Customer Service award.

The award recognised the dedication of not just the Crown Customer Care team, but everyone across the business who continually go above and beyond to make a real difference to both DIY-ers and professionals, supporting them to achieve a successful transformation project or empowering them to realise their business ambitions.

And Crown Decorating Centre Glasgow manager Robyn Smith received individual commendation for her leadership and drive to always deliver fantastic results for customers, with a highly commended in the Young Leader of the Year category.

Katie McLean, UK & Ireland marketing director at Crown Paints, commented:

“We’re delighted to have been recognised at this year’s British Coatings Federation awards, and it’s brilliant to see acknowledgement at such a high level for the impact we’re having as a business across the industry, as well as the dedication of our people.

“We’re committed to helping everyone paint their own possible, and this purpose guides everything we do from product development, to protecting our planet and supporting emerging talent and our communities. It’s amazing to see this celebrated by our peers and I’d like to thank everyone at Crown, as well as our fantastic industry partners, for their continued hard work and support.”

Crown is part of Hempel Group, a global coatings company majority owned by The Hempel Foundation, an organisation that supports biodiversity, empowers children through education and drives initiatives that create positive change.

The company’s environmental and social initiatives as part of Project Possible, as well as profits from paint sales, all contribute to Hempel’s efforts, helping to make a difference not just in the UK & Ireland, but across the world.

Darryl Senior, senior operations, and decorative vice president at Hempel, said:

“It’s an outstanding achievement to be recognised by the industry for our Futureproof Sustainability strategy. It’s testament to the Hempel and Crown operations team for their drive, hard work and commitment over the last three years and shows that together we are making a major difference.”
