Location – National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester, LE4 5NS
About this event – Event lasts 6 hours 30 minutes
The 2025 conference & exhibition will seek to build on the last two year’s sell-out successes at the same venue. We will look to further develop the ‘shared responsibility’ approach to KSI reduction by continuing to develop the ‘It’s personal’ theme which was launched at the inaugural event in March 2023.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The primary audience for the conference is health & safety professionals, with a particular focus on National Highways’ supply chain and other public sector bodies who can influence their supply chains. The aim is to use the conference to continue conversations about work-related road risk with H&S professionals.

TOPICS, SPEAKERS & PRESENTATIONS
We will add more details of speakers and presentations as they are confirmed over the coming weeks.
Daryl Wake, Business Development Director, DEKRA
This presentation will explore how easy it is for health & safety professionals to mis-prioritise risks within their organisation and apply resources to the more severe risks.
Professor Tim Marsh PhD; MSc; CFIOSH; CPsychol; SFIIRSM
Tim Marsh will look at how we should remember that human decisions can be flawed and should be managed out of hazardous behaviours – the FI and FU index…
Stefan Szrama, MITIE
National H`ighways will launch a new Guide to Incident Investigation at the event. Stefan Szrama has been at the heart of developing MITIE’s investigation process and will discuss the National Highways guidance, which aligns with their process, and the importance of a ‘just environment’ whilst illustrating this against a (fictional) incident.
Phil Gilling, Director of Learning & Development, GRIT HP UK
This presentation will focus on the relevance of the value of applying the guidance of Human Organisational Performance (HOP), focusing on the five principles of HOP into organisational culture and processes, and explaining the understanding that error is normal, organisational drift is ever-present, and that learning from both is vital.
Anne-Marie Penny, Driving for Better Business
Anne-Marie Penny will remind delegates of the benefits of being part of the Driving for Better Business programme.
Glen Davies, Managing Director, The Driver Handbook
This presentation will explore the concept of moral responsibility and the benefit of a psychologically safe environment to improving the management of road risk.
Professor Tim Nutbeam, Director for IMPACT at the Centre for Post-Collision Research, Innovation and Translation & Professor of Emergency Medicine and Post-Collision Care at the University of Plymouth
National Highways will be launching its Post-Collision Trauma Response Guide at the event. Tim Nutbeam’s presentation will underline the importance of ‘at-work’ drivers having good levels of knowledge around making optimal 999 calls, scene management and basic first aid.
Dr. Grant Charlesworth-Jones, D4Drivers
National Highways will also be launching its guide to supporting businesses in managing their fitness to drive duties. Dr. Grant Charlesworth-Jones will explore some of the challenges and offer thoughts on ‘to-do’s’ and actionable insights.
Matthew Avery, Euro nCap
The fitment of passive and active safety equipment on commercial vehicles lags some way behind that on passenger vehicles. Much of the improvement we’ve seen in car standards over the last 27 years since Euro Ncap’s car standards were launched. Their new van and truck standards are looking to replicate this improvement across commercial vehicles.
Jon Hughes, MITIE
Jon Hughes will discuss the benefits of engaging at Board level around the importance of effective management of road risk.
Wing Commander Andy Green
Andy Green’s spotlight session will wrap up the day. Andy is the current (and probably last) holder of the World Land Speed Record and is the only person ever to break the sound barrier on land reaching 763mph in September 1997 in ThrustSSC (Super Sonic Car). Andy’s presentation will focus on his experience in managing the risk of this mission.
