Dorset decorators celebrate prize draw business boon

27 March 2025

A family painting and decorating business from Dorset is celebrating after winning a new spray machine which will cut costs as they take on a new apprentice this summer.

Matt and Ali Lawrence of Prime Finish Interiors, based in Poole, were automatically entered into the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) Early Bird Prize Draw after paying their membership fee in full at the start of the year.

They were presented with a Graco spray machine by PDA Chief Executive Neil Ogilvie, who travelled to Poole to congratulate the couple.

Ali said: “We were surprised and very pleased when we were told we’d won. We’d forgotten about the draw, and we never expect to win anyway.

“This win is a boost for our business as we have an apprentice joining us in the summer and this means we won’t have to purchase another spray machine for them to use.”

As the UK’s largest trade body dedicated to the painting and decorating sector, the PDA represents thousands of operatives across the country and provides a range of support for apprentices and employers.

PDA Chief Executive, Neil Ogilvie said: “Congratulations and Matt and Ali at Prime Finish Interiors on their surprise win!

“It was fantastic to be there at the presentation of their prize and hear about the boon this will be for their business.”

The GX19 Electric Airless Sprayer 230V, worth £1,205, was provided by as the Early Bird prize by Graco. Callum Merriman, District Manager at Graco said: “Congratulations, Matt and Ali.

“The GX 19 is an airless sprayer that ticks all the boxes for small residential painting and repainting jobs. It combines the GX track record with an affordable price, making airless spraying the logical choice for even those small projects like painting interior walls and ceilings.”

A PDA member company since November 2022, Prime Finish Interiors specialises in interior decorating, kitchen unit and furniture spraying as well as wallpaper hanging.

Matt is fully qualified in airless spraying and has more than 15 years’ experience in the trade. He said: “One of the most valuable aspects of PDA membership is the credibility it gives our business, as well as the access to advice and services if we need them.”

The PDA has acted as a collective voice for painters and decorators since 1894, lobbying on their behalf at a national level and hosting a series of key events that showcase the skill and professionalism of painters and decorators throughout the year.
