A national trade body has highlighted the sustainability strides made by a Gloucestershire business by creating an online case study showcasing its environmental credentials.
The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has featured P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd, based in Dursley, in a new case study that shines a spotlight on PDA members who commit to drive down waste through its Paint Green initiative.
P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd was an early adopter of the Paint Green scheme, which encourages PDA members to reduce, reuse or recycle excess paint and paint containers year-on-year.
Stephen Timbrell is a partner at P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd. He said: “Paint Green is a great initiative by the PDA to encourage our industry to think more about the environmental impact of painting and offer an easy way to make a real difference.
“Becoming a member of the Paint Green scheme demonstrates to our customers that we are serious about the disposal of our used tins and waste recycling.
“It is crucially important for all businesses regardless of their size to play their part in combating climate change and reducing the impact they have on our planet.
“We all make decisions every day, whether it’s the choice of an oil-based or water-based product, or in choosing between a recognised ‘green’ option or a ‘plastic paint’, and each time we should consider not just the price and convenience but also the environmental impact it may have. All these small changes can add up and make a big difference.”
Launched by Peter Timbrell in the 1960s, the business became P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd in 1992 when his son, Stephen came on board, followed by grandson, Josh in 2018.
Since 2008, the business has been Highly Commended or Very Highly Commended six times at the PDA’s Premier Trophy Awards as well as winning the Small Contractor category in 2009, 2010 and 2021, and winning the Decorative category in 2022.
As specialists in traditional techniques including limewashing and distempering, P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd has long been proactive in the sustainability sphere, producing an environmental policy, measuring its carbon footprint through a partnership with Planet Mark and undergoing the environmental reviews and impact assessments required to accept and retain a Royal Warrant – bestowed in 2006.
PDA Chief Executive, Neil Ogilvie, said: “PDA members who sign up to our Paint Green scheme make a pledge to drive down waste by reducing, reusing or recycling paint and paint containers.
“P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd is a fantastic example of a team that has made a long-term commitment to sustainability and to continually evolve as a business while reducing environmental impacts.
“We’re delighted to be showcasing their work as part of our Paint Green case study series.”
