Crown Paints has donated 300 litres of paint to SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) to help bring to life the charity’s new drop-in mental health hub in Glasgow.
The new hub – known as The Nook – is the first of five expected to open across the country. It will provide a welcoming space where anyone in crisis or struggling with their mental health can access support from trained professionals – without the need for an appointment.
The centre aims to provide a calm, uplifting environment where people feel safe and supported.
As part of its donation, Crown Paints has also provided full paint specification support, including technical guidance on product formulations and colour selection to ensure durability, sustainability, and a positive sensory impact.
To ensure a calming environment, warm neutrals were paired with cool blues.
Crown Paints is one of several businesses that have come together to support the design of the centre. Many of the partners involved in Material Source Studio Scotland have collaborated to help SAMH create a space that truly supports mental health – from furnishings and finishes to thoughtful lighting and sustainable materials.
Working alongside some of Scotland’s most respected designers, including Scotland’s Home of the Year judge Anna Campbell-Jones and Joasfinni Porter Chambers from Josafinni studios, Crown Paints helped to develop a bespoke colour palette designed to promote calmness, warmth, and emotional balance. The result is a space that feels both uplifting and safe – a reflection of the charity’s mission to provide hope and support for anyone facing a mental health problem.
Marie Hoise, Architectural Design Consultant at Crown Paints said: “It’s been incredible to collaborate with SAMH. Access to fast mental health support, without the need for referrals or waiting lists, will be a critical source of help to so many people in Scotland.
“It’s been an honour to work on such an important project. Colour and design can have a real impact on the way people feel within a space, so it was really important that we worked with the team at SAMH closely to create a colour palette that helps people to feel reassured and welcome.”
Judith Deacons, Senior Programme Manager at Scottish Action for Mental health said: “We’re so grateful to Crown Paints and, in particular, to Marie, for their incredible generosity and commitment to this project. Their expertise and passion have helped us create a space that feels truly welcoming and restorative. We’re delighted that Marie will also be joining us as a volunteer at the centre, continuing her support for our mission to make mental health support accessible to everyone.”
This donation and colour design support mark the latest step in Crown Paints’ ongoing commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing. Earlier this year, Crown announced a new partnership with Mind to help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and fund vital mental health services across the UK.
