Marketplaces continue to list ladders that could pose a high level of risk to users.
Which? finds dozens of ‘dangerous’ ladders online after trader’s career ended by fall from product bought on Amazon.
The Ladder Association’s latest telescopic ladder market surveillance report, released in October 2025 as part of their ongoing ‘Step Up to Safe Ladders’ campaign, continues to attract the attention of leading consumer group, Which?.
Recently, Which? published the results of their latest investigation into dangerous ladders for sale online. As part of their investigation, Which? spoke to Joffrey Bogemans (pictured), who bought one of these dangerous ladders from Amazon Marketplace. Joffrey got in touch with the Ladder Association to report an accident he had when he fell from a non-compliant ladder he bought from Amazon. He appeared alongside them on the BBC Morning Live programme in January 2025 and his story is featured in their latest report.
Which? researchers have uncovered 100 dangerous ladders, all sharing similar or identical designs to the one Joffrey bought, for sale in the UK across 21 online marketplaces, including AliExpress, Amazon, eBay, Shein and Temu!
The Ladder Association will continue to campaign and advocate on behalf of its members as reputable ladder manufacturers and suppliers. They will continue to raise awareness of the importance of buying and hiring safe and compliant products, particularly in the face of increasing competition from third party sellers selling unsafe ladders online (often at much lower prices), and they thank Which? for their support in keeping consumers safe at height.
